Maquinarama (2000)

Release

The recording of "Maquinarama" in Belo Horizonte made the group feel comfortable and helped them develop the ideas conceived during the pre-production phase. The studio arranged in the backyard of Haroldo Ferretti’s mother, the very place where the first Pato Fu album, "Rotomusic de Liquidificapum", was recorded, kindly allowed the Skank to work there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from January to April 2000. The album was produced by Chico Neves and Tom Capone. "Maquinarama" was concluded in the studios 304 (RJ) and Toca do Bandido (RJ, mixed in Mega (RJ) by Álvaro Alencar and Tom Capone, and in Bearsville Studios (Woodstock/USA) by Jacquie Turner. Bob Ludwig, responsible for projects by Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Police and Pearl Jam, masterized it in Gateway Mastering Studios. The album includes songs written with Nando Reis, Lô Borges, Rodrigo Leão, Chico Amaral, Edgar Scandurra and Fausto Fawcett. The art on the sleeve was created by Marcus Barão, who used the image of a 61 Cadillac graphitted by Kenny Scharf, one of Andy Warhol’s follower, contemporary with Basquiat and Keith Haring. It is only the second time Scharf has lent his art to an album. The first time was for B52’s album "Bouncing Off The Satellites". The Skank was photographed for the sleeve by Weber Pádua. "Maquinarama" was launched in June 2000 and sold 250,000 copies.
